Message from our Chairman & Events Sec

The 2012 Wyre Forest cyclo-sportives, The Stinger and the mini Stinger, are now open for entries. They are being held on Sunday 13th May and club members are asked to support these established events either as a rider, or as a helper. The entry fees are held at the same level as previous years and are now amongst the cheapest to partake in on the UK calendar. Despite this they provide a significant income to the club which helps offset the need for higher membership fees, so we hope club members can support our sportives enthusiastically. Organiser David Prior will need the following positions filled by volunteers please;

• Manning of the 3 feed stations at: Holt Heath village hall, Clee Hill, and Heightington village hall – min of 1 person per station.

 • 2 people to follow the Stinger course acting as Broom wagon whilst also collecting in the various signage. • Signing on stewards and recording times on return – 2 or 3 ideally. • Emergency helper to fill in if needed anywhere, to collect any stranded/lost/injured riders, basic repairs. Will need a car and tools, map, 1st aid kit, mobile, plus a couple of spare tubes.

• First aider. Above are the bare minimum we can get away with. Helpers who travel away from the HQ at Stourport receive fuel costs. Thanks in advance, email DP if you can help at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. Other diary dates coming round soon will be the club Reliability Trials on Sunday 12th February 2012.

Usual format, enter on the morning £3 only, HQ is SSC, riders can choose from 3 groups, Gold (fast), Silver (brisk), Bronze (incredibly slow). Fastest group sets off first. Again DP is looking for some helpers on the day for signing on and timing.

The weekend following has the Beacon audax rides starting from Hartlebury Ind Estate café at 08.30 or 09.00 Saturday 18th Feb. Most WFCRC members ride the Snowdrop event which is the later starting one (avoids the worst of the winter cold/ice) and if you haven’t already entered then do so on line via the Beacon RCC website.

Now full with 500 riders is the Mad March Hare mini sportive is on Sunday 4th March, new course etc, details via the Cult Cyles website. Entered are David and Matthew Prior, Simon Alexander, Jack Coombe, and Aaron McCulloch. Start between 08.00 and 09.30 from Beckets Farm, Wythall. Car Parking is £2 for the day.

Finally there is still time to book for Mallorca either direct or through Stuart Hall at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - most of us are going out on 17th March and coming back on 30th. Organiser needed: West Midlands British Cycling have put together a programme of circuit races to run each Tuesday evening for next season at Stourport Sports Club.

Wyre Forest are doing the first 2 dates on 15th and 22nd May. The races will be a set format and alternate with the first week having a 4th cat race followed by a 3rd/4th cat race, the next week will see an E/1/2 cat race and a 3rd/4th cat race. DP is co-ordinating for the club but with the Stinger sportives also in May we need a club BC member to go down as official organiser. We should get some help from other clubs on the nights but could do with about 4 club people to assist – signing on and number stewards, marshals and judges, plus 1st aider. Let DP know if you can go down as organiser asap please.
